Thesis Title: A taxonomic investigation of the mosquito genus Anopheles (Diptera: Culicidae) in Canada, using morphological, cytological, and molecular data
Research Summary:
I am currently examining Anopheles mosquitoes from morphological, cytological, and molecular perspectives. I have collected specimens from across Canada (Ontario, British Columbia, and Newfoundland) and plan to continue collections (Prairies). My research so far has focused mainly on the cytogenetic component of the project and involves an examination of the salivary gland polytene chromosomes of fourth instar larvae. Morphological studies of larvae and adults have also begun and molecular studies are planned for the future.
